Royal Brunei Navy Delegation Participates in LIMA'25

Langkawi, Monday, 19 May 2025 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) led by Commander Sonny Iskandar bin Rasani, the RBN Chief of Staff, participated in the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25) from 19 to 21 May in Langkawi, Malaysia. The RBN delegation attended as part of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) contingent, reinforcing Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to enhancing regional defence cooperation and joint military engagement.

Throughout the three-day event, the RBN delegation took part in key engagements including the Opening Ceremony, the Gracing Ceremony, and the Maritime Segment Gracing Ceremony. These events offered opportunities to observe the latest developments in defence capabilities and to engage with counterparts from partner nations.

A key highlight of the visit was a courtesy call with Vice Admiral Dato’ Ts. Shamsuddin bin Hj Ludin, Deputy Chief of Navy of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). During the discussion, both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued cooperation and explored future plans across a range of defence areas including maritime security, joint exercises, and professional exchanges.

The delegation also attended a meet-and-greet session with Rear Admiral Sean Wat, Chief of Navy of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), further strengthening existing defence ties and underscoring the spirit of friendship and collaboration among regional forces.

In addition, the RBN delegation visited various exhibition booths and engaged with leading defence and maritime industry vendors. These professional interactions provided valuable insights into emerging technologies and capabilities relevant to maritime operations and future naval development, aligning with RBN’s ongoing efforts to explore potential areas of capability enhancement.

The Royal Brunei Navy’s participation in LIMA’25 reflects its continued support for RBAF’s broader strategic objectives and Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to multilateral defence cooperation. Engagements at platforms such as LIMA serve as vital avenues for strengthening interoperability, fostering mutual understanding, and enhancing Brunei’s role in regional and global defence dialogues.
