SOUTH CHINA SEA, 08 MAY 2023 – The ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise (AIME) 2023 was the inaugural multilateral maritime exercise between navies from ASEAN and India. KDB DARULEHSAN embarked on a 14-day deployment beginning on 27 April 2023 to participate in the Warship Display of the International Maritime Defence Exhibition (IMDEX) Asia 2023 in Singapore and set sail once again for AIME 2023.
AIME 2023 aims to strengthen ASEAN-India relations and acts as a platform to enhance naval cooperation, and confidence building, and foster friendship at all levels. AIME 2023 was conducted over two (2) phases namely the Harbour Phase and Sea Phase. The Harbour Phase was initiated with the opening ceremony held in Changi Naval Base, a Seminar and Subject Matter Expert Exchanges on the topic of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) as well as planning conferences between participating units of the exercise.
KDB DARULEHSAN is captained by Commander Saiful Hazril bin Ali, RBN with a crew of sixty-seven (67) personnel. The exercise was further joined by INS DELHI and INS SATPURA of the Indian Navy (IN), RSS SUPREME of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), HTMS PATTANI of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN), KD LEKIU of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), VPNS TRAN HUNG DAO of the Viet Nam People's Navy (VPN), BRP ANTONIO LUNA of the Philippine Navy (PN), and KRI I GUSTI NGURAH RAI of the Indonesian Navy. Participation also included observers from Cambodia and Laos.
AIME 2023 is a stepping stone in strengthening naval cooperation and collaboration between ASEAN Navies and the Indian Navy. RBN's participation signals a commitment to defence diplomacy in establishing working relationships with regional partners and helping in maintaining a stable security environment.
