SURABAYA, REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA, MONDAY, 18 NOVEMBER 2024 – The opening ceremony of Exercise HELANG LAUT 21B/2024 was officiated today by Kapten (N) Rafael Dwinatu Anggono, Commander of Escort Squadron, Second Fleet of the Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia-Angkatan Laut TNI-AL). The ceremony, held at the Auditorium of Pusat Latihan Kapal Perang Building, Komando Armada II, marked the beginning of the joint exercise between the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and TNI-AL. In his opening address, Kapten (N) Rafael Dwinatu emphasized the importance of this exercise in enhancing military readiness and strengthening diplomatic ties between Brunei and Indonesia, contributing significantly to regional stability.
Participating RBN ships are KDB DARULAMAN commanded by Commander Ade Rodianne bin Haji Rosdi, RBN, and KDB SYAFAAT led by Lieutenant Commander Nazurah binti Haji Mahaleh, RBN. The participating Indonesian Navy Ships are KRI FRANS KAISIEPO and KRI TOMBAK.
The first phase of the exercise includes operation planning discussions, professional sharing sessions on unmanned aerial system operations, and deck familiarization activities aimed at sharing knowledge and procedures for boarding operations. This collaborative effort seeks to enhance maritime security and interoperability between the two navies.
The sea phase of the exercise, scheduled from 21 November until 22 November 2024. The sea phase will include a series of naval manoeuvres, tactical gun firing drills, and joint boarding training to enhance coordination and response capabilities in addressing maritime threats.
KDB DARULMAN and KDB SYAFAAT safely arrived yesterday at South Mirah Wharf, Surabaya. Their arrival was warmly welcomed by Captain (N) Sati Lubis, Assistant of Operation Fifth Naval Base; Commander Rivo De Havilland, Commanding Officer of KRI FRANS KAISIEPO; Commander Garmadi, Commanding Officer of KRI TOMBAK; and the Defence Attaché of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Indonesia, Commander Muhammad Shahmun Azimin bin Haji Awang Asli, RBN. The welcoming ceremony featured a cultural dance and a band performance, reflecting the deep camaraderie between both nations.
