
MUARA NAVAL BASE, Friday, 02 June 2023 - The Initial Planning Conference (IPC) for Exercise HORNBILL 29/2023 was successfully conducted through online video teleconference (VTC) at the Nakhoda Ragam Meeting Room, Naval Training Centre (NTC), Muara. The two-day conference was hosted by the Royal Brunei Navy and led by Lieutenant Commander Ade Roddiane bin Haji Mohd Rosdi, RBN, Commanding Officer of KDB DARULAMAN, as the chairman for this year's exercise. The 29th series of Exercise HORNBILL is planned to be held from 23rd October 2023 to 27th October 2023 in Brunei.
Exercise HORNBILL is conducted biennially with the objectives of enhancing military efficiency and interoperability for both Royal Brunei Navy and Royal Malaysian Navy to counter non-conventional threats at sea. This year's exercise will focus on the concept of Surface Warfare Procedures and Maritime Security. The IPC was conducted with the aim of planning and discussing the activities and serials that will be executed during the exercise.
The IPC was co-chaired by Captain Mohammad Fairuz bin Hassan, RMN, the Assistant Chief of Staff for Planning and Contingency. Also present during the conference were representatives from RBN HQ, RBN Fleet HQ and RMN Eastern Fleet HQ.
