ROYAL BRUNEI NAVY (RBN) ATTENDS IPC AMNEX 02/2023 IN THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES

PASAY CITY, MANILA, PHILIPPINES, 23 September 2022 – The Philippines Navy held an Initial Planning Conference (IPC) for the upcoming 2nd ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercise (AMNEX) 02/2023 from Tuesday, 21 September until Friday, 23 September 2022. The meeting was conducted at the Heritage Hotel, Pasay City, Manila and was attended by representatives from the ASEAN Navies. AMNEX 02/2023 was conceived during the 8th ASEAN Navy Chief Meeting (ANCM) in 2014 and the inaugural exercise was conducted in Thailand in 2016. The purpose of the AMNEX is to promote maritime security among ASEAN countries to respond to common regional maritime issues through interoperability, maritime responsiveness and readiness within the Southeast Asian Region.

IPC AMNEX 02/2023 was officiated by Commodore Jose MA Ambrosio Q Ezpeleta, Chief of Naval Staff, Philippine Navy. During his welcoming speech, he expressed hopes of a successful AMNEX and how crucial it was that planning was prudent in order for the exercise to be successful. He concluded that this exercise will also not only be an opportunity to enhance interoperability between the ASEAN Navies, but also strengthen existing relations between countries through their Navies.

Representing the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) was Commander Malek Fadillah bin Pehin Datu Juragan Laila Diraja Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Kefli, RBN, Commanding Officer of KDB DARUTTAQWA and Lieutenant Junior Grade Mohammad Shukri bin Mohamad Safri, Fleet Staff Officer of Planning & Exercise. The theme for the upcoming exercise is focus towards Maritime Security and Maritime Search & Rescue Operations. During the meeting, details regarding the exercise were discussed in developing an initial overall plan of the exercise conduct. Also discussed were the logistical supports and other requirements for a smooth execution of the exercise.

The 2nd AMNEX is planned to be on held from the 12 to 15 May 2023, where an ASEAN Fleet Review is also planned to be conducted in conjunction with the upcoming ANCM also held in the Republic of the Philippines.
