MUARA, Wednesday, 16 March 2022 – HMS TAMAR of the United Kingdom's Royal Navy (RN) made a transit in Brunei Darussalam from 14th to 15th March 2022 for a logistic visit. Following this visit, the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and RN, KDB DARULEHSAN and HMS TAMAR have also successfully conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) on 15th March 2022 as HMS TAMAR departs Brunei Darussalam.
Before PASSEX, both RN and RBN took the opportunity to further deepen their bilateral defence relations through contactless virtual interactions and a virtual courtesy call by Lieutenant Commander Matt Millyard, RN, Acting Commanding Officer of HMS TAMAR, to Commander Mohammad Azrin bin Hj Mahmud, Fleet Chief of Staff, RBN. During the PASSEX, both ships conducted a series of communications and manoeuvring exercises, concluding with a sail pass. These activities allow all officers and crew from both navies to practice and improve their drills and strengthen interoperability between RN and RBN. Both expressed gratitude and fulfilment with the exercises and looked forward to more opportunities to enhance naval ties.
This interaction series represents the warm and friendly defence and security relations based on historical and traditional links between the United Kingdom and Brunei Darussalam. It also shows the resilience of both navies in upholding the momentum of cooperation in the current COVID-19 situation. The RBN reciprocates the commitment to strengthen its historic bilateral relations with RN, enhancing interoperability towards the goal of cooperation at sea and wishes HMS TAMAR a smooth journey to their next port of call.
