PENANJONG GARRISON, Thursday, 20 February 2025 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) officers and personnel successfully concluded the Basic Base Defence Officers’ Course and Basic Base Defence Course for Other Ranks, Session 2025. The seven-week training program, attended by five officers and 24 other ranks, consisted of six weeks of theoretical and practical lessons, followed by a one-week exercise designed to enhance the operational readiness and defensive capabilities of RBN personnel. The course was organized by the Maritime Operation School and Officer Career Development School (OCDS) at the Naval Training Centre.
The closing ceremony was officiated by the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Commander Hj Ainolnazim bin Hj Ibrahim, RBN, Commandant of Support Services RBN, who was joined by officers, instructors, and course participants. Throughout the training, participants gained essential skills in base defence operations, including Internal Security Operations, Individual Military Appreciation Processes (IMAP), Incident Orders, and Map Reading. The final phase of the course culminated in Exercise Kelasak Sauh Tempur, held at the Fighting in Built-Up Area (FIBUA) Complex.
In his closing remarks, the Guest of Honour commended the participants for their dedication and perseverance, emphasizing the critical role of base defence in safeguarding national security and maintaining operational excellence within the RBN. He also highlighted the importance of spiritual resilience in navigating volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) operational environments.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates and awards to outstanding participants. The Overall Best Student Award was presented to 1397 Lt Hj Abdul Wadud bin Dato Paduka Haji Md Yusop, RBN, for officers and 54669 Ls Ak Abd Qawiy bin Pg Mahidi for other ranks. The Best Theory Award went to 1633 Lt JG Nur’ Nazzatul Aqilah binti Dzulkarnane, RBN, for officers and 54686 Ls Mohammad Khairi Azri bin Abdullah Khuzairi Azmi for other ranks. The Best Physical Training Award was presented to 54671 Ls Nazmi bin Hj Sijjim.
These achievements reaffirm the Royal Brunei Navy’s commitment to vigilance, preparedness, and excellence in base defence operations.
