JS KASHIMA AND JS SHIMAKAZE OF JAPAN MARITIME SELF-DEFENSE FORCE (JMSDF) MADE A GOODWILL VISIT TO NEGARA BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

MUARA, Sunday, 2 June 2024 -The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) recently welcomed two ships from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), JS SHIMAKAZE and JS KASHIMA, on a goodwill visit to Negara Brunei Darussalam from 30 May to 2 June 2024. The visit was led by Rear Admiral Nishiyama Takahiro, Commander of the Japan Training Squadron. This visit aimed to strengthen ties and foster cooperation between the JMSDF and the Royal Brunei Navy.

During their stay, the JMSDF engaged in activities designed to promote camaraderie and mutual understanding. The visit commenced with a ship tour of JS KASHIMA, during which Royal Brunei Navy personnel learned about the ship's capabilities and operations. Rear Admiral Nishiyama Takahiro took the opportunity of the stay to host a luncheon onboard JS KASHIMA, attended by Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin bin Matserudin, RBN, the Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy. This provided a platform for informal discussions and further relationship building.
On a separate occasion JMSDF delegation visited the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) Museum, where they explored the history and development of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. Additionally, JMSDF Medical Officers visited the Royal Brunei Armed Forces' Medical Headquarters, allowing for an exchange of best practices and discussions on potential medical collaborations.
In a show of respect and support, the JMSDF delegation also attended the 63rd-anniversary celebrations of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. This participation underscored their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. Along with the visit, JMSDF hosted a ship reception, which facilitated further interaction and goodwill between the personnel of both navies. The visit concluded with a Passage Exercise by KDB DARULEHSAN, JS SHIMAKAZE, and JS KASHIMA. 
The successful visit underscored the commitment of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and the Royal Brunei Navy to enhance maritime cooperation and strengthen professional ties. It provided an invaluable opportunity to exchange best practices and promote friendship between the two nations.
