ROYAL BRUNEI NAVY PARTICIPATED IN BASIC IORIS TRAINING

Friday, 01 October 2021 – Six members of the Royal Brunei Navy and Four Joint Force Headquarters attended a basic training course on the IORIS regional information sharing platform from Monday, 27th September 2021 to 01st October 2021. The training was conducted by European Union project CRIMARIO with a view to strengthening participation in the 27th CARAT exercise, which is going to be held between 15th and 19th November 2021.

Developed by the European project CRIMARIO (Critical Maritime Routes Indo-Pacific), the IORIS Maritime Coordination & Communications platform enables enhanced interagency collaboration at the national and regional level.

The trainer, Commander (R) Alexandru Chiric, a former Romanian Navy officer, provided instruction on the tool, which is used to manage events and share information by communicating with other counterparts, to   support the building of a regional maritime picture. IORIS will be used by Royal Brunei navy during the upcoming 27th CARAT exercise as a means of communication between operational and tactical level units, with a view to sharing information on vessels of interests during the sea phase exercise. In addition, this platform also allows web-based command and control functions, to manage incidents/crisis management and offer multi-agency cooperation and coordination of maritime operations.
