JETTY ALPHA, MUARA NAVAL BASE, Monday, 30 December 2024 — A signicant chapter in Royal Brunei Navy history unfolded today as KDB MUSTAED witnessed a poignant handover-takeover ceremony between two distinguished female Commanding Officers (CO).
In her farewell address, outgoing CO, Lt Nur Mazarina binti Marzlan reflected on her tenure with heartfelt sincerity. She shared mixed emotions as she recounted her experiences leading KDB MUSTAED, highlighting both the challenges and triumphs of her command. “I will never forget the times we have sailed the sea together—from maritime patrols, exercises and always being ready when assigned with tasks that had tested our professionalism and patience. Each voyage has strengthened our bond as a family that will always support each other.” she expressed, acknowledging her crew's unwavering support and camaraderie. Lt Nur Mazarina was appointed Executive Officer of KDB SYAFAAT before assuming her first command tour as ship CO of KDB MUSTAED since October 2022. As RBN’s second female CO, she will now be conducting her duties as the Staff Officer Grade 3 Commander’s Office, RBN Headquarters.
Stepping into her new role, incoming CO, Lt Dk Nur Bahirah binti Pg Hj Abd Rahman, delivered a speech brimming with optimism and determination. She expressed her deep honour in assuming command and in continuing the legacy with full commitment. She also outlined her leadership philosophies as accountability, benevolence, decisiveness, and cohesion that will guide her tenure towards a formidable and unified team.
The ceremony, attended by ship officers and crew members, celebrated shared values, dedication, and the passing of the torch to ensure continued excellence aboard KDB MUSTAED. As described by the ship’s motto, “Always Ready,” KDB MUSTAED remains a symbol of perseverance and persistence, and this transition of command underscores the dynamic leadership shaping its future. Both officers embody the highest standards of service, inspiring not only their crew but also the broader naval community.
