RBN Acting Commander Strengthens Regional Maritime Cooperation at 18th ASEAN Navy Chiefs' Meeting

Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, 10 October 2024 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Acting Commander, Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin bin Matserudin, represented Brunei Darussalam at the 18th ASEAN Navy Chiefs' Meeting (ANCM) hosted by the Myanmar Navy from 9-12 October 2024. The meeting, officiated by General Maung Maung Aye, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy, and Air), focused on strengthening regional maritime security and cooperation.

Under the theme "Sailing Together: Harmony to Peace and Prosperity," the ASEAN Navy Chiefs discussed the progress of ANCM initiatives and deliberated on future activities. They shared their viewpoints on enhancing regional maritime security through coordinated efforts and reaffirmed ASEAN's central role in promoting peace and stability in the region.

During the meeting, Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin had the opportunity to engage in bilateral talks with several ASEAN Navy counterparts, including Vice Admiral Sam Sokha of the Royal Cambodian Navy, Vice Admiral Puchong Praditteera of the Royal Thai Navy, and Rear Admiral Pham Nhu Xuan of the Vietnam People's Navy. These discussions provided a platform to exchange views on bilateral cooperation and address shared maritime challenges.

Additionally, Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin met with Vice Admiral Htein Win, the Commander-In-Chief of the Myanmar Navy. The two leaders discussed the evolving regional maritime landscape and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding ASEAN Centrality in addressing transboundary maritime threats.

The RBN Acting Commander's participation in the 18th ASEAN Navy Chiefs' Meeting underscores Brunei Darussalam's dedication to regional maritime security and cooperation. By engaging with ASEAN counterparts and strengthening bilateral ties, the RBN continues to play a vital role in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
