MUARA, Tuesday, 3 August 2021 –
The opening ceremony of Exercise HORNBILL 28/21 between Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) was held this morning via Video Teleconference broadcasted from the Multinational Coordination Centre (MNCC) for RBN and at the Auditorium, Submarine Command Headquarters, Eastern Fleet Command for RMN. The ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Commander of the Eastern Fleet,
First Admiral Sazalee bin Shoib. Also involved in the ceremony was; RBN Fleet Commander, Captain Khairil bin Hj Abdul Rahman, RBN; Malaysia Defence Adviser to Brunei, Colonel Kamarudzaman bin Mohd Thani; the Commanding Officer of KDB DARUTTAQWA, Commander Mohd Malek Fadilah bin PDJLD Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Kefli and Commanding Officer of KDB BERKAT, Lieutenant Commander Pg Khairul Anwar bin Pg Dr Abu Bakar.
Exercise HORNBILL is conducted biennially and has reached 36 years since its beginning in 1985. The exercise has strengthened bilateral relations between the two Navies as well as provide the officers and men of both navies the opportunity for information sharing and professional exchange, whilst enhancing interoperability and collaboration in the maritime region.
For this exercise series, it will be held over duration of five days involving two RMN assets, KD TODAK and KD KERIS and two of RBN assets, KDB DARUTTAQWA and KDB BERKAT.
