MUARA, Wednesday, 19th June 2019 – The Royal Brunei Navy is currently conducting its inaugural Bilateral Exercise Initial Planning Conference with the Russian Navy which begins today, Wednesday, 19th June, 2019 at the Multi National Coordination Center, Muara Base. The meeting will be held until Friday, 21st June, 2019.

The Russian Navy delegation arrived at Brunei International Airport yesterday evening, headed by First Admiral Karpov Alexander Vadimovich, Assistant of the Chief of Navy’s MESC in Scientific and Educational. Present to receive the delegation, head of Royal Brunei Navy’s Delegation is Commander Sonny Iskandar bin Rasani, Acting Fleet Chief of Staff of the Royal Brunei Navy Fleet.

The meeting commenced with Courtesy Call to the Acting Fleet Commander, Captain Norshahrinizam bin Haji Talib. While the Courtesy Call to Royal Brunei Navy Commander will be held on Thursday, 20th June 2019. This meeting will be focusing on further discussion on the dates of subsequent meetings, exercise schedule of events and area of operations and as well the implementation of standard exercise procedures and exercise format which will be hosted by both navies. Also discussed during the meeting was the standard exercise procedure and exchange of memorandum. A dinner reception between the two navies will be hosted by the Acting Fleet Commander, on Thursday night,20th June 2019.

This Bilateral Exercise is an important milestone for the Royal Brunei Navy in general and in particular to Brunei Darussalam to achieve its goal and objective in establishing defence diplomacy relations with regional countries. Among others, to enhance the level of professionalism of both navies in terms of maritime operations training and joint interoperability at all levels.
