Muara, 15/16 November 2023 – Royal Brunei Navy Participants that are attending the Ship Commanding Officer Designated Course paid a visit to the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Primary Resources & Tourism, Serasa yesterday, 15 November 2023 and the Marine Police Headquarters, Royal Brunei Police Force, Muara earlier today, 16 November 2023.

Officers of the Department of Fisheries, Sheikh Al-Idrus Sheikh Nikman and Nur Diyana Besar, welcomed the visit to the Department of Fisheries. The visit began with a welcoming remark by one of the course participants, 1090 Lieutenant Commander Mohd Suwady Syakin bin Suffari, followed by an Introduction presentation by the Department of Fisheries. The course participants were informed about the jurisdictions and functions of the Department of Fisheries, which showed ties with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, especially in subjects such as encountering Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUUF) while out at sea.

The visit to the Marine Police Headquarters was received by ASP Abdul Hafizazuddin bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Acting Assistant Commanding Officer of Marine Police and Inspector Abdul Halim bin Abdullah Chok, Operations Officer 1, Marine Police, who delivered an educational presentation on the organisation, roles and responsibilities, and the operations conducted by the Marine Police. The course participants were also shown the equipment used by the Marine Police when they were conducting operations out at sea. The visit and presentation proved how, in every operation, The Royal Armed Forces, The Marine Police, and other agencies are involved, especially regarding jurisdiction and chain of command.

Both visits to the Department of Fisheries and Marine Police Headquarters concluded with a group photo session and exchange of gifts as tokens of appreciation.

The Ship Commanding Officer Designated Course is in its first week and will be until 1st December 2023. The course objective is to embed the course participants with the knowledge and skills required to exercise the ship’s command roles onboard respective Royal Brunei Navy vessels in making sound judgments during ship operations and tasking, ship handling, safety of navigation and safety of ship crew.
