BRUNEI DARUSSALAM, Tuesday, 8th November 2022 –
Delegations consisting of junior officers from ASEAN member states’ navies were welcomed by Commander Willie @ Mathias bin Padan, Commandant Naval Training, RBN in his opening remarks during the Opening Ceremony for the 9th iteration of the ASEAN Navy Young Officers Interaction (ANYOI) hosted by the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) at Dewan Nakhoda, Naval Training Centre, RBN. The 9th ANYOI will be held for 5 days from 7th
to 11th November 2022.
Following the opening ceremony, a seminar was held on the theme of “The Role of Future Leaders in Addressing Maritime Challenges”. Panelist made up of Lieutenant Commander Ade Roddiane bin Haji Mohd Rosdi, RBN, Lieutenant Commander Wan Abdul Naafi bin Metussin, RBN, and Captain Nabil Suhairidhwan bin Awang from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Judge Advocate General Office oversaw the seminar moderated by Lieutenant Commander Najihah binti Haji Abdul Hisab, RBN where the delegates discussed the topics of “Young Leaders’ Contribution to ASEAN Maritime Security” and “Future Leaders’ Perspectives on the Region’s Maritime Security Architecture”. The 9th ANYOI participants also visited RBN’s DARUSSALAM-Class Patrol Vessel to end the day.
The 9th ANYOI has gathered two junior officers from each ASEAN member states navies and representatives including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam. As an annual initiative under the ambit of the ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting (ANCM), ANYOI aims to promote cross-cultural understanding, strengthen friendship, and enhance the spirit of solidarity amongst ASEAN Navies.
The 9th ANYOI represents RBN’s continued commitment towards enhancing regional cooperation by providing a platform to build people-to-people relationships amongst the future leaders of ASEAN Navies.
