NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY, MANAMA, KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN; Thursday, 23 August 2018 – The Royal Brunei Navy’s (RBN) involvement with Command Task Force (CTF) 151 comes under the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF) command team, which is currently leading and coordinating the CTF 151’s counter-piracy efforts in the Gulf of Aden since 26th June until late 27th September 2018. Representing the RBN is 820 Lieutenant Mohd Akramin bin Alidin, RBN, serving in Frame 2 between 5th August and 27th September 2018. CTF 151 will also be coordinating with the European Union Naval Force, as well as with other navies operating in the Gulf of Aden, that includes Operation Blue Sapphire, the SAF’s support to international maritime security efforts beyond their waters, to contribute to multinational counter-piracy efforts in the Gulf of Aden.The Commander of CTF 151 is Rear Admiral Saw Shi Tat from the Republic of Singapore Navy, who is leading the current Singapore-led command which comprises of 53 SAF personnel and 11 international officers from Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and the United Kingdom.
The command of CTF 151 rotates between the 33 member nations of the Combined Maritime Forces every three months, with Republic of Singapore due to hand over command to the State of Kuwait by late September 2018. This will be the 7th time an RBN Officer has served with the Task force since its inception in 2009, highlighting the RBN and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces’ (RBAF) commitment in its involvement in combined multinational operations overseas.
