August 15, 2024 – Rimba – In a groundbreaking move for sports within the armed forces, the Royal Brunei Navy proudly hosted its first-ever all-female netball tournament at the Royal Brunei Airforce Sports Complex on August 15, 2024.
The tournament, which featured four dedicated teams, kicked off with qualifying rounds on August 13 and 14. After intense matches and strategic plays, the top two teams with the highest points advanced to the finals, where they competed for the coveted first and second-place titles.The Sea Stars emerged victorious, claiming the championship title with a spectacular performance, and the Net-vy Squad secured the second-place position.
Esteemed guest of honour, Lt Cdr Dk Lyadia Ulandari binti Pg Hj Muhamad, RBN presented the prizes to the teams. The top scorer was awarded to 21816 LsM Nor Hasimah binti Awang Ramli, while 21446 Bint Nurul Jannah binti Anuar earned the title of Best Defender. 21962 LsM Nur’afina binti Haji Marsidi was recognised as the Best Player for her dynamic play throughout the event.
The all-female nature of the tournament not only showcased the incredible talent of Navy women but also provided a platform for empowering and celebrating female athletes. By facilitating such events, the Navy aims to enhance team cohesion, build confidence, and inspire future generations of women to excel in sports and beyond.
The success of this tournament represents a significant milestone in the Navy’s efforts to support and elevate female athletes, fostering an environment where their contributions and achievements are recognised and celebrated.
