MUARA, Wednesday, 24 January 2024 -The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) hosted the 8th Naval Working Group (NWG) with the Indonesian Navy (IDN) at the Naval Training Centre. The 8th NWG served as a platform for both navies to discuss and enhance their cooperative strategies in various areas, including joint naval exercises, information sharing, and capacity building.

The meeting was co-hosted by Commander Azrin bin Hj Mahmud, RBN, RBN Chief of Staff and Captain Alfred Daniel Matthews, IDN’s Senior Staff Officer for Strategic Operations and Bilateral Diplomacy, IDN Headquarters.

The discussions entailed a review of mutually beneficial opportunities for both RBN and IDN in terms of joint exercises, training programs and courses. It is through these ventures that both parties further strengthen the existing bilateral ties and subsequently, enhance maritime security in the region.

The meeting concluded with the signing of the minutes of meeting.

The next iteration of the Naval Working Group will be held in Indonesia in 2025, thus continuing the ongoing dialogue and fostering a lasting partnership between the RBN and IDN.
