MUARA,
15th December 2021 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) attended the Naval Medicine Seminar held over 2 days from 14th December to 15th December 2021, under the ambit of the West Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) hosted by The People’s Liberation Army – Navy (PLA-N) held at Shanghai, China and virtually from each participants’ remote locations. Representatives on behalf of the Royal Brunei Navy were Lt Col (Dr) Isehardy bin Murni and Lt (Dr) Naqibah binti DP Ahmad Bukhari from Medical Services, Royal Brunei Land Force and Lt JG Hjh Umi Kalsum binti Haji Roslan from Support Services Headquarters, RBN.
The seminar was attended by representatives from 15 participating navies from Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Chile, China, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore and Thailand. A total of 5 observer navies also participated including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom.
The opening ceremony was officiated with the opening remarks delivered by Rear Admiral Jiao Zhanfeng, Political Commissar of Naval Medical University (NMU) Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA). The seminar proceeded with the delivery of respective areas of expertise in 5 topics pertaining to: COVID-19 Pandemic Response, Prevention and Control, Medical Rescue in Maritime Disasters, Naval Special Medicine Development, Advances in Marine Pharmacy and Biotechnology, and Training of Naval Medical Professionals.
The RBN remains committed in maintaining naval diplomacy ties with her fellow navies and seek to continue showing support for more platforms of information sharing and cooperation such as the Naval Medicine Seminar of WPNS towards a peaceful and stable region.
