– The Officiating and Opening Ceremony of the inaugural Commanding Officer Designate (CO DESIG) Pilot Course 01/2022 was held today at the Nakhoda Hall, NTC. Present to officiate the ceremony was Captain Khairil Haji Abd Rahman, Fleet Commander RBN.
In his opening speech, he emphasized the course as an important element towards understanding the philosophy of command which includes shaping and leading a ship’s company, and understanding the operational and disciplinary law and the jurisdictions. The Fleet Commander stated that these factors influence a Commanding Officer’s judgement and the course of action being taken.
The course aims to develop the knowledge and skills required to exercise command roles onboard Royal Brunei Navy ships, in making sound judgement during ship operations and taskings, ship handling, safety of navigation, and overall safety of the ship’s sailors.
The course is attended by a total of 10 Executive Officers and will undergo intensive 5-weeks course that will be divided into two phases consisting of shore phase and sea phase. The officiating and establishment of this course marks as a key achievement between RBN’s Fleet and NTC towards progressively enhancing training to generate readiness amongst the sailors.
