JEJU CIVIL-MILITARY COMPLEX HARBOUR, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, Sunday 14 October 2018 – The opening ceremony was held last Wednesday morning on the 10 October 2018 at the Jeju Civil-Military Naval Base (JNB) to commemorate the launching of Republic of Korean Navy International Fleet Review (ROKN IFR) with the slogan – “Jeju, Where Peace Starts”.
The program for KDB DARUTTAQWA in ROKN IFR started off with a Pass-in-Review with other participating ships around the waters of Southern Jeju. A total of 20 participating ships from 13 different countries including 24 ROKN ships, 2 submarines and 24 aircrafts were involved in the Pass-in-Review.
DTQ crew had the opportunity to attend the defence industry exhibition at the Exhibition Center in JNB. Companies that took part in the exhibition provided booths displaying the latest naval technologies pertaining to ship weapons, sensors and accessories.
The Commander of Royal Brunei Navy, First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, also visited DTQ followed by a photo session. Straight after, the Commanding Officer of DTQ, Commander Azrin bin Hj Mahmud, attended a welcoming luncheon hosted by Governor of Jeju, Governor Hui Ryong Won at the Lotte Hotel and in the afternoon attended receptions on board Indonesian Navy training ship KRI BIMA SUCI and Vietnam People’s Navy ship VPNS TRAN HUNG DAO.
The program for DTQ then continued with a two day World Navy Weekend cultural events. World Navy Weekend included sporting events such as arm wrestling, hacky sack, tug-of-war and a rally held at the soccer field.
Apart from the sporting event, DTQ personnel had the opportunity to spectate a Korean Wave Concert with World Navy. The events include a combined naval band performance and fanfare, United military music concert, Naval dance performances and an invited K-Pop concert at the Jeju World Cup Stadium.
In the evening, the Commanding Officer of DTQ was invited for a farewell dinner held at Ilchulbong Helicopter Deck hosted by Chief of Naval Operations of the Republic of Korea, Admiral Sim Seung-seob. Subsequently officers and crew were invited for a night’s dinner and performances held at the Kensington Resort in Seogwipo hosted by the Commander of Flotilla 8. The day ended with a firework festival display and a fringe performance of military band of participating countries at Jeju Civil-Military Harbour Complex.
DTQ is expected to sail off from Jeju Civil-Military Complex Harbour tomorrow morning.
