ROYAL BRUNEI POLICE FORCE HEADQUARTERS, Tungku, Thursday, 10 October 2019 – Exercise SEMBILANG Series 14/2019 which began on the 07 October 2019 was officially ended this afternoon with a Closing Ceremony at Royal Brunei Police Force Headquarters (RBPF HQ), Tungku. This joint exercise involved participations from the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and Marine Police (POLMAR), RBPF.
Present as the Guest of Honour was the Fleet Commander RBN, Captain Norshahrinizam bin Haji Talib, RBN. Also present during the closing ceremony was the Assistant Commanding Officer POLMAR, DSP Hajah Nur Haidah binti Haji Abdul Halim and the Commanding Officer KDB AFIAT, Lieutenant Commander Haji Abdul Hafiz Mubarak bin Haji Rusli.
The Closing Ceremony began with a summarised report of this year’s exercise presented by the Assistant Commanding Officer POLMAR who highlighted the three main phases and agendas of the exercise namely the table top and discussion sessions, sea phase and SEMBILANG CUP sport interactions consisted of involved friendly football match, table tennis and badminton competitions between both enforcement units and won by POLMAR, RBPF.
The ceremony then followed by a report signing and plaque exchange between Assisting Commanding Officer POLMAR who was also the Commander Task Group (CTG) and RBN’s Commanding Officer KDB AFIAT who was also the Deputy Commander Task Group (DCTG). It was then concluded with another plaque exchange between respective ships’ commanding officers.
Prior to the deactivation of the exercise, Fleet Commander of RBN gave his closing remarks which highlighted the context of “Whole Nation Approach” which supports the aspiration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam, where both enforcement units engaged in a joint maritime exercise to defend the maritime sovereignty of Negara Brunei Darussalam (NBD).
All planned events were conducted and executed successfully and safely throughout the exercise which resulted in beneficial outcomes for both units. Both units also managed to share and exchange experiences and knowledge which acts as an indication that the main objectives were achieved throughout the exercise.
Exercise SEMBILANG Series 14/2019 lead to an enhancement of the mutual understandings found between RBN and POLMAR, which overall was hoped to contribute to NBD’s effectiveness in preventing and reducing illegal maritime activities.
