MALAYSIA, LANGKAWI, TUESDAY, 26 March 2019
– Deputy Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Captain Haji Othman bin Hj Suhaili@Suhaily along with the Assistant Chief of Staff Capability Development, Commander Shahairil bin Haji Mohd Shahlan attended the 15th edition of the Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA’19) from 26th to 28th March 2019. LIMA’19 was officiated by Yang Amat Berhormat Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia on 26th March 2019 at Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre, Langkawi.
Among the major activities participated by the Deputy Commander of RBN includes the Chief of Navies’ Roundtable Talks with the theme as “Commandeering today’s navy to safeguard tomorrow’s national interest.” The focus of these discussions was to align the Navies’ strategies with national development goals. Following the Chief of Navies’ Roundtable Talks, the RBN delegates visited various exhibition booths. The RBN’s attendance in this event provides an ideal platform for RBN to engage industries in maritime technologies vital for the realisation of its capability development.
During the event, the Deputy Commander of RBN had conducted a courtesy call with Laksamana Datuk Mohd Reza bin Mohd Sany, Chief of Royal Malaysian Navy. During the call, both sides had expressed their pleasure on the longstanding excellent defence and military relations between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia. The Deputy Commander of Navy had also received a courtesy call from Rear Admiral Peter Quinn, Head of Navy Capability Royal Australian Navy.
On the second day of the event, the Deputy Commander of RBN participated the LIMA’19 Fleet Review that involved 40 ships from 12 countries. Representing Brunei Darussalam for the Fleet Review was KDB DARUTTAQWA. The Prime Minister of Malaysia was onboard KD PERANTAU, a Royal Malaysian Navy hydrography survey vessel to receive the salute from each participating ship. This is a naval tradition which allows all participating ships to parade with pride.
