REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE, Tuesday, 18 October 2022 – First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Haji Seruji, Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), was conferred Singapore’s prestigious military award, the Meritorious Service Medal (Military) [MSM(M)] by Her Excellency Dr Hajah Halimah binti Yacob, President of the Republic of Singapore. The award was presented by His Excellency Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence, Republic of Singapore, to Commander RBN at an investiture held at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) Singapore.

Commander RBN was conferred the award his significant contributions in enhancing the defence ties between the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the RBN. Both navies have expanded bilateral defence cooperation and enhanced professional and personal interactions through high-level visits, cross-attendance of courses and professional exchanges. Both navies have deepened cooperation in multiple areas such as Maritime Domain Awareness, improved interoperability at sea, and the development of confidence-building measures through multilateral platforms such as the ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting, which has yielded significant professional benefits for Singapore and Brunei.

Prior to the investiture, Commander RBN inspected the Guard of Honour and commenced with a courtesy call to His Excellency Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence Republic of Singapore; Lieutenant General Melvyn Ong, Chief of Defence Force; and Rear Admiral Aaron Beng, Chief of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). Whilst in Singapore, Commander RBN also had the opportunity to visit SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI) and RSN’s Naval Diving Unit (NDU).
