GUANGZHOU, PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA, Saturday, 20 October 2018 – The Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad and delegation arrived Guangzhou for the ASEAN-CHINA Maritime Exercise (ACMEX) 2018.
As part of the visit programme, RBN Commander held a courtesy call with Vice Admiral Yuan Yubai, Commander of the Southern Theater Command (STC) of People’s Liberation Army – Navy (PLAN) at White Swan Hotel. During the call, Commander of STC PLAN welcomed Commander of RBN and expressed his pleasure and gratitude for RBN to participate in the 1ST ACMEX 2018. Both sides reiterated mutual commitment to continue to bolster defence ties and to further enhance interactions in areas of mutual interest through various naval exercises platforms with a view to contribute to the peace and stability of the region.
In the afternoon, RBN delegation and other ASEAN delegations were invited to STC Headquarters for the briefing on STC. The briefing was briefed by the Senior Major Li, Chief of Operation Officer of STC, he highlighted the general situation of STC, STC’s geography, the capabilities of its assets and equipment, as well as the mission of STC, and one of the mission is responsible for safeguarding and to maintain peace and stability in South China Sea.
Later in the evening, a banquet was hosted by the Commander of STC PLAN at Lingering Garden. The banquet was then followed by the night cruise on Pearl River, giving the delegations an opportunity to meet each other, and also to enjoy the breathtaking night view of Guangzhou city along the way from the Yacht Marina to White Swan Hotel to end the night.
