MUARA, Monday, 25 June 2018 – The Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN), Vice Admiral Pham Hoai Nam with his delegation arrived in Brunei Darussalam on the 24 June 2018 for a two-day introductory visit.Today, Vice Admiral Pham Hoai Nam made a Courtesy Call to the Minister of Defence II, The Honourable Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Retired)
Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Md Yussof and later to the Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Major General Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud at the Ministry of Defence, Bolkiah Garrison.
The visit continued with the arrival of Vice Admiral Pham Hoai at the Muara Naval Base, accorded with a Guard of Honor presented by the personnel and RBN band led by Lieutenant Shahrul Idham bin Haji Bungsu, RBN.
He then made a call to Commander of Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad and was later briefed on the RBN organization.
Subsequently, Vice Admiral Pham Hoai Nam accompanied by Commander RBN for a ship tour onboard Patrol Vessel KDB DARULAMAN and was greeted by the Commanding Officer, Commander Azrin bin Haji Mahmud, RBN. The Admiral was briefed on the ship’s capabilities. The tour concluded with the signing of parchment and gift exchange.
Bilateral defence relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam reached another milestone when RBN and VPN signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 05 December 2013. The MoU serves as a framework for fostering closer defence relations and cooperation between the defence establishments and navies of both countries.
The visit by the Commander-in-Chief of the VPN, Vice Admiral Pham Hoai Nam aims to foster closer bilateral relations and explore areas of cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Socialist Republic of Vietnam, particularly in the field of defence.
Vice Admiral Pham Hoai Nam was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief of the VPN on the 25 June 2015.
