Thursday 28 January 2021 – Base Defence, Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) successfully conducted Anti-Riot Exercise at the Fighting in Built Up Area (FIBUA) Penanjong Garrison with the support from the head of Anti-Riot project – Third Battalion, Royal Brunei Land Force.

The 5 days Anti-Riot Exercise was conducted from 25 – 29 January comprises of 3 Base Defence officers and 62 Base Defence personnel. The Anti-Riot Exercises includes lessons on systematic Room Entry that was delivered by Naval Surface Action Group (NAVSAG), Royal Brunei Navy, followed by FIBUA exercise and Key-point Guard Exercise and Urban Patrol.

The exercise aimed to test the present capacity and capabilities of Base Defence, Royal Brunei Navy in the urban operations. It trains the Base Defence personnel to engage with insurgents in complex urban environment, which includes buildings, narrow alleys, and other places where there are limited visibility and manoeuvrability.

Systematic approach must be used to manage urban areas, such as, by sweeping the rooms or buildings door-to-door and in depth research and credible intelligence must be gathered in order to assist the Base Defence to dictate the exact locations of the insurgents and to not mistaken it with civilians.

This mini exercise is also an initiative by Base Defence, Royal Brunei Navy to prepare for the upcoming Hikmat Bersatu Exercise VI, which will be held this year.
