DEPUTY COMMANDER RAN WORKING VISIT TO RBN

MUARA, Thursday, 29 August 2019 – The Deputy Commander of Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Rear Admiral Mark Hammond made a working visit to Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and paid a courtesy call to First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Othman bin Haji Suhaili @ Suhaily, the Commander of RBN. Rear Admiral Mark Hammond was accompanied by Her Excellency Ms Nicola Rosemblum, Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam and Captain Richard Caton, Australian Defence Advisor to Singapore and Brunei.

During the courtesy call, the Commander of RBN welcomed Rear Admiral Mark Hammond to RBN Headquarters and subsequently discussed on future potential interactions which could help strengthen the bilateral ties between the two navies, in particular for future Exercise PENGUIN to advance to another level. Rear Admiral Mark Hammond then continued his RBN working visit to Naval Training Centre (NTC), in which he was given a short presentation on the function and roles of NTC. Rear Admiral Mark Hammond also had the opportunity to visit KDB DARUSSALAM, where he was given a ship briefing and a ship tour. Throughout the visit, Rear Admiral Mark Hammond was accompanied by Captain Pengiran Mohamad bin Pengiran Haji Damit, the Deputy Commander of RBN and RAN and RBN senior officers.

Rear Admiral Mark Hammond was the former Chief of Defence Force Liaison Officer to the US Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2017 before taking his appointment as the Deputy Commander RAN as of March 2018.

The working visit by the Deputy Commander RAN and delegation was held between 28 – 29 August 2019.
