MUARA, Thursday, 19 December 2019 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) welcomed a visit from Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) consisting of 21 officers and staffs, led by Awg Mohammad Affindi bin Hj Sabli, a Meteorological Forecaster Officer. The visit entailed an exchange of knowledge and experiences from both organizations pertaining to the North East Monsoon, the current seasonal wind.

The tour began with a brief on RBN’s roles, missions, assets and how weather can affect RBN operations which was presented by Lieutenant Commander Zulyamin bin Awg Mohd Noor, RBN, Principal Warfare Officer held at the Multi-National Coordination Centre (MNCC). A short brief by Awg Affendi bin Hj Sabli on how the weather impacts Negara Brunei Darussalam and the current status of North East Monsoon. By the end of the presentation, a closing remark was delivered by Commander Rasman bin Puteh, RBN, Commanding Officer KDB DARUTTAQWA.

The group also made a ship visit onboard KDB DARULEHSAN, and was welcomed by the Commander Edy Jofren Bin PDP DP Hj Abdul Jalil, RBN, Commanding Officer KDB DARULEHSAN. The group toured the Rigid Hull Inflatable Craft (RHIC) deck, forecastle deck, sickbay and bridge.

BDMD is Brunei Darussalam’s National Meteorological Service and is the authority responsible for provision of meteorological and climate services. BDMD became a member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 26 November 1984.
