BALI, Republic of Indonesia, Monday, 23 May 2022 – The 16th ANCM Staff Meeting was held from 22 until 24 May 2022, at Bali, Republic of Indonesia. The objective of the Staff Meeting was to coordinate agendas and arrangements for the actual plenary meeting to be held tentatively in August 2022.
Representing RBN were Lieutenant Commander Mohamad Arif Hj Tajuddin, RBN, Staff Officer Grade 2 Intelligence, and Lieutenant Muhammad Hakim bin Haji Basman, Air Warfare Officer KDB DARULEHSAN. Also present was Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Aeddie Masjaffrie bin Pengiran Haji Md Jaafar, Defence Attache from Brunei Darussalam to Republic of Indonesia.
Present to officiate the meeting held at Nikko Hotel Benoa, was First Admiral Wasis Priyono, Deputy Assistant to Chief for Operation of Indonesian Navy and chaired by Captain Robert Marpaung, Senior Staff Officer for Operation Strategy and Diplomacy of Indonesian Navy Headquarters. The meeting further entailed discussions on activites held and planned involving ANCM members including ASEAN Navy Training Experience Exchange Programme (ANTEEP), ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercise (AMNEX), 4th Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo 2023, International Maritime Defence Exhibition (IMDEX) 2023, and the 9th ASEAN Navy Young Officers Interaction (ANYOI) 2022.
As a precursor to the 16th ANCM, this was the first such meeting hosted physically after the advent of COVID-19. Nevertheless, relationships between ASEAN Navies remains steadfast and cohesive as was evident by a fruitful discussion and interaction over the 3 days.
