MUARA NAVAL BASE, Wednesday, 03 May 2023 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) has conducted the 5th blood donation campaign to commemorate RBN’s 57th Anniversary and address the critical shortage of blood supply in local hospitals. The campaign aims to encourage more people to donate blood and help save lives in which a total of eighty-two (82) RBN personnel participated today.
According to Blood Donation Centre, RIPAS the shortage of blood supply has reached a critical level, with hospitals facing difficulties in meeting the demands of patients in need of transfusions. The shortage was primarily due to a decrease in blood donations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as seasonal factors such as increased travel and the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday.
The Blood Donation centre, RIPAS is also taking measures to ensure the safety of donors and staff during the campaign, including the implementation of strict hygiene protocols.
The Blood Donation Campaign is carried out across all departments under the Royal Brunei Navy to contribute to the National Blood Bank and to involve RBN personnel in a good cause that will have a positive impact to the wider Bruneian community.
