The workshop was officiated by Commodore Jose Ma Ambrosio Ezpeleta, PN Chief of Naval Staff. It builds on from the conduct of the 16th ANCM hosted by the Indonesian Navy in August 2022 to convene ASEAN Navies’ representatives to discuss the details of the GMI.
The GMI initiative was a result of ASEAN member states’ commitments highlighted during the 9th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting to undertake practical measures to reduce vulnerability to miscalculations and avoid misunderstandings and undesirable incidents at sea.
