MUARA NAVAL BASE, Friday, 14 June 2024 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) celebrated its 59th Anniversary today with a Grand Parade held at the RBN Parade Square led by Lieutenant Commander Mohd Akhmal bin Mohd Akbal, RBN. 

As the sun rose over the Muara Naval Base, the Royal Brunei Navy commenced its 59th Anniversary celebration with a poignant display of tradition and honor: the morning colors ceremony.
The ceremony then proceeded with the Grand Parade. Present as Guest of Honour was Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin bin Matserudin, Acting Commander RBN, where he gave a speech commemorating RBN’s 59th Anniversary. He congratulated the parade display in his speech, symbolizing high professionalism and spirit. He also stressed the importance of leadership, discipline, and adherence to the core values of professionalism, loyalty, courage, and piety. He also acknowledged the contributions of civilian and private sectors in supporting RBN’s efficiency. He then highlighted RBN’s significant achievements over 59 years, including commissioning the AS-SIDDIQ Class and technology like Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs). He encouraged maintaining a work-life balance for optimal performance and well-being. In his closing remarks, he thanked all involved in organizing the anniversary celebration and prayed for continued protection and guidance from Allah SWT.
The parade continued with the presentation of awards and certificates to RBN officers and sailors for their achievements and professionalism in their careers. The RBN Command Badge was awarded to Lieutenant Commander Aliashim bin Alias, RBN, and Lieutenant Commander Awg Mohd Zulyamin bin Awg Mohd Noor, RBN. The RBN Officer of the Watch Certificates were also awarded to Lieutenant Junior Grade Ahmad Mu’aadz bin Haji Abdul Razak, RBN, Lieutenant Junior Grade Khairul Hazwan bin Bubin, RBN, Lieutenant Junior Grade Jeremy Joint Riong@Kenjiro, RBN, Lieutenant Junior Grade Faez bin Haji Ahat, RBN, Lieutenant Junior Grade Harzelah@Nurfazelah binti Yakub, RBN, Lieutenant Junior Grade Shafiq Hanafi bin Sahari, RBN, Lieutenant Junior Grade Muhammad Syazwan Adilah bin Haji Mahri, RBN and Lieutenant Junior Grade  Muhammad Nabil bin Haji Suhaimi, RBN.
Other awards highlighting further professional achievements were also presented, including the Rules of the Road Masters award to Lieutenant Junior Grade Dk Rabiatul Muthiah binti Pg Haji Ismail, RBN, the Sauh Emas award to WO2 Norafendy Syuaib bin Rusli, RBN, the Bintang Harapan award to Leading Hand Pg Muhd Wafiuddin bin Pg Mohd Jailani, RBN, the Best Engineer (Officer) award to Lieutenant Commander Pg Putera Md Amir Rosman bin Pg Matussin, RBN and the Best Engineer (Non-Commissioned Officer) to WO1 Johari bin Haji Ludin, RBN, the Jurutera Harapan award to Petty Officer Abdul Azim bin Haji Md Rhyme, RBN. Awards highlighting fitness prowess were also presented to Lieutenant Commander Ak Faizul Azmizan bin Pg Hj Rajali, RBN, and Lieutenant Commander Rasyidah Suziany binti Hj Roslan, RBN, for the Officers’ Category, Petty Officer Muhammad Adi Firdaus bin Abu Bakar, RBN for the male NCOs’ Category, and Able Rate Dk Siti Norastikah binti Pg Abd Mokmin, RBN, for the female NCOs’ Category.
The event was further blessed with a Doa Selamat recited by Ustaz Muhammad Sabqi bin Nasar, RBN Religious Officer and then concluded with a group photo at the Jetty Alpha.
A series of events have been conducted in conjunction with the RBN’s 59th anniversary, such as Tahlil at the Royal Brunei Mausoleum, Khatam Al-Qur’an ceremony, and Doa Kesyukuran. More events will be held to commemorate the 59th Anniversary, including Mess Dinners in all the messes of the RBN, motivational talks, and RBN Family Day.
