DARWIN, Saturday, 1 September 2018 – The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) conducted The Regional Fleet Commanders’ Conference in conjunction with exercise KAKADU 2018. The conference which is designed to generate robust discussions on matters of regional interests by discussing a variety of topics from the differing viewpoints of each country. Representing the Royal Brunei Navy was the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Fleet Commander, Captain Zil Husam bin Haji Abdul Rahman, RBN.
The 1-day conference focused on two specific themes; Armed Robbery & Piracy; a mutual platform for partner navy fleet commanders from participating countries to share their perspectives as well as to share and discuss different aspects of their mission objectives and their responsibilities. The conference also promotes opportunities for increased multilateral engagements, exercises and information sharing to improve maritime domain awareness, building measures to deal with emerging maritime security threats and promote congruence in line with international maritime norms.
Highlight of the event was the Fleet Commanders’ panel where all the regional commanders had the opportunity to have free discussion on matters of interest. The panel was chaired by RADM Jon Mead, Commander Australian Fleet (COMAUSFLT). The conference was then concluded with gift exchanges between respective fleet commanders and COMAUSFLT.
