MUARA, Monday, 25 April 2022 – HMS SPEY of the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy (RN) arrived in Brunei Darussalam on 24th April to 25th April 2022 for a logistic visit; following her sister ship HMS TAMAR’s visit to Brunei. As HMS SPEY entered Brunei, RBN and RN took the opportunity to continue fostering their historic ties with the successful conduct of a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) between KDB DARULEHSAN and HMS SPEY.

During the PASSEX, both ships conducted a series of communications and maneuvering exercises which concluded with a sail pass. The PASSEX provides an opportunity for all officers and crew from both navies to practice and improve their drills whilst performing the serials. Moreover, it represents the continued commitment by both sides to further enhance interoperability. Upon conclusion of the PASSEX, both ship captains expressed gratitude and fulfillment with the exercises and anticipation of more opportunities to strengthen naval ties in the future.

This series of interactions represents the warm and friendly defence and security relations based on historical and traditional links between the United Kingdom and Brunei Darussalam. It represents the resilience from both navies in upholding the momentum of cooperation despite COVID-19 complications.

The RBN reciprocates the commitment to strengthen its historic bilateral relations with RN, enhancing interoperability towards the goal of cooperation at sea. The RBN wishes HMS SPEY fair winds and following seas to their next port of call.
