SAN DIEGO, 23 June 2023 – The planning cycle for the Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 commenced with the Initial Planning Conference (IPC) meeting from Tuesday, 19 June until Friday, 23 June 2023. The IPC was hosted by the Commander United State (US) Third Fleet (C3F) at Naval Base Point Loma, San Diego, California, United States of America.

25 partner nations participated in the IPC and Brunei Darussalam was represented by two naval officers, Lt Cdr Mohamad Hasmin bin Hashim, RBN and Lt Cdr Shahbillellah Ikhwan bin Haji Ramlee, RBN.

Presenting the opening remark for the IPC, the Commander US Third Fleet, VADM Michael Boyle announced the theme of the next year’s exercise, “Partners: Integrated & Prepared” with the objective ‘to exercise combined RIMPAC force capabilities in a dynamic maritime environment to demonstrate enduring interoperability across full spectrum of military operations.’ Exercise RIMPAC in 2024 is the 29th iteration of the exercise and scheduled to be conducted in June 2024 in Hawaii, United States of America.

In coordinating the world’s largest multinational maritime exercise, this IPC is where all participating nations specify their training objectives with detailed exercise planning as well as administrative and logistic requirements. The IPC had allowed the participants to engage in discussion and planning with associated working groups such as Joint Manning, Accommodation and Security (JMAS), Surface, Live Fire, Communication and Logistics.

At the same time, the IPC also provided the opportunity for the participants to foster relationship and partnership as most of the attendees in this IPC will continue to work together throughout the year as exercise planners.

The next planning meeting will be the Mid Planning Conference (MPC) which will be held in early December this year in Hawaii, United States of America.
