ASTT PUSLATLEKDALSEN, KODIKLATAL, SURABAYA; Monday, 6 August 2018 – Exercise Helang Laut, a bilateral exercise conducted annually between Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and Tentara Nasional Indonesia – Angkatan Laut (TNI-AL), has reached its 19th series this year and TNI-AL has been given the honor to host the Exercise in Surabaya.Upon arriving, the Royal Brunei Navy delegation was received by Lt Col (P) Ferry H. Hutagaol, the Commander Task Group for this year’s Helang Laut Exercise (CTG 19A.1). A Courtesy call to DANKODIKLATAL was also organized to First Admiral Maman Firmansyah, Commander of Sea Operation Command (DANKODIKOPSLA).
The exercise was then activated by First Admiral Muhammad Rashid Kacong, Chief of Operation and Exercise Service TNI-AL (KADISOPSLATAL) during the Opening Ceremony. Representing the Royal Brunei Navy delegation as the Deputy Command Task Group of the exercise is Commander Rasman bin Puteh, RBN (DCTG 19A.1).
During the ceremony, First Admiral Muhammad Rashid Kacong highlighted that Helang Laut is a testament to the existing bond between the two navies and this year, Helang Laut will elevate the relationship to a higher level. First Admiral Rashid emphasized although there will be no sea evolutions taking place in this year’s edition of the exercise, both navies should make full use of the given opportunity especially when the scenario is based on wargaming multhi threats, 3dimensional warfare (Anti Surface Warfare, Anti Air Warfare, Anti Submarine Warfare). This training will allow both navies to work together in accomplishing a given mission.
The 5-days exercise will consist of 2 command team from TNI-AL and two command team from RBN, the first command team from RBN is commanded by Lieutenant Commander Saiful Hazril bin Ali, RBN as the Commander Task Unit 3 (CTU 3) while the second command team will be commanded by Lieutenant Commander Hj Mohd Arnold bin Hj Osman, RBN as the Commander Task Unit 4 (CTU 4).
The exercise will be divided into three different phases namely the opening phase, wargaming phase and also closing phase. The opening phase started today, while the wargaming phase will start from the 8th August til 9th August followed by the closing phase on the 10th August 2018. For the closing phase, present will be Captain Zilhusam bin Abd Rahman, Fleet Commander RBN.
