MUARA, Tuesday, 11 June 2024 – Colonel Markus Thiel, Defence Attaché of the Federal Republic of Germany accredited to Brunei Darussalam, paid a courtesy call to Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin bin Matserudin, Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), at the RBN Headquarters today.  The call was also attended by Her Excellency Ambassador Gerda Winkler, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Brunei Darussalam.

The call allowed Colonel Thiel, Ambassador Winkler, and Captain Sarif Pudin to discuss matters of mutual interest, including bilateral defence cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Germany. Colonel Thiel commended the strong and long-standing relationship between the two countries, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration in defence matters. He expressed Germany’s commitment to further strengthening defence ties with Brunei Darussalam. Captain Sarif Pudin reciprocated the sentiment and appreciated Germany’s continued support for the RBN’s development. He also welcomed further collaboration on areas of shared interest.
The meeting concluded by reaffirming the commitment to enhance cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Germany for mutual benefit.​
