MUARA, Friday, 29 November 2019 – 15 Officers of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) have completed the second Maritime Operations Planning Course (MAROPS) conducted by the Naval Training Centre (NTC), RBN. The course is an assessment strategy for Lieutenants prior to their promotion to Lieutenant Commander. The objective of the course is to challenge the officers’ understanding and ability to conduct planning at the tactical level whilst having an appreciation of the operational level. The course exposes officers’ to the RBAF Operational Military Appreciation Process (OMAP) and its application in simulated by fictitious scenarios.
During the course, the participants had the opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills as they were given assigned roles of command and staff officers on rotation.
The intensive 7-week course culminated in a Commander’s decision brief to the Naval Executive Board and key senior naval officers. The course which is only in its second iteration is key to a naval officers’ career advancement to middle management and its continued success is a testament of the Royal Brunei Navy’s resolve to meet the aspirations of WAWASAN 2035.
