
MUARA, Wednesday, 08 November 2023 – The closing ceremony for completing the Naval Diving Course – Basic was held at Serasa RBAF Watermanship Complex. Six RBN personnel consisting of one Officer, one Senior Rate and four Junior Rates successfully completed the 7-week course of becoming Naval Divers.
Present as the Guest of Honor was Commander Haji Norbahrin bin Haji Muamad, the Head of the Inspectorate Cell. Also present at the ceremony were RBN Officers, Naval Training Centre (NTC) Instructors, as well as family members of the course participants.
The presentation of course certificate was presented to all seven trainees by Commander Haji Norbahrin bin Haji Muamad. The Best Academic Student was awarded to Lieutenant Junior Grade Jeremy Joint Riong @ Kenjiro, whereas the Best Overall Student was awarded to 52887 Able Rate Adi Syazwan bin Mohammad.
The gruelling 7-week course consisted of four phases – Theory Phase, Pool Phase, Sea Phase, and Operation Week, also known as ‘Hell Week’. The first phase, the Theory Phase, involved two weeks of learning, diving theories and practices. The second phase, the Pool Phase, involved two weeks of drilling lessons into practical training. The third phase, the Sea Phase, involved two weeks of trainees putting their practical skills into being exposed to the elements of the sea, both above and below the surface. The fourth phase, Operation Week, is where course trainees are tested physically and mentally and tested on all procedures and drills they have learnt throughout the basic diving course.
