MUARA, Friday, 18 January 2019 – The inaugural Maritime Operations Planning Course (MAROPS) closing ceremony was held at the Multinational Coordination Centre (MNCC) in Muara Naval Base this morning. MAROPS course is a 6-week course, which commenced on 10 December 2018. Present at the closing ceremony as the Guest of Honour was Commander of Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi Bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad. Also present were senior officers and officers of RBN.

Upon the arrival of Commander of RBN, the ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa to bless the ceremony by Lieutenant Shahrul Idham bin Haji Bungsu, RBN who is also amongst the course participants. The ceremony then continued with a course summary by Commander Hj Edy Jofren bin Pehin Datu Penglima Col (Rtd) Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Jalil, RBN, as the Directing Staff 1 for MAROPS course. The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Certificate of Attendance to course participants, which was then concluded with the recitation of Doa to bless the completion of MAROPS course.
 
MAROPS course is aimed at enabling course participants to conduct Joint Planning operations in accordance with the Brunei Joint Doctrine Publication, published in January 2018, as the base reference of Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Joint Operations planning. The course covered detailed operational military planning utilising the Operational Military Appreciation Process (OMAP) from the Joint Doctrine & Warfare Centre (JDWC) and the Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace (IPB) process from the Intelligence Training Wing, RBAF.
MAROPS course is also a prerequisite for progression from Lieutenant to the Lieutenant Commander rank in the RBN, which is also, at the same time, designed to prepare and enable these officers in holding staff appointments in the future.
