TANAH JAMBU, Monday, 7 December 2020
– The Intermediate Staff Course (ISC) 20/2020 officially ended today with a closing ceremony at the Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF), Kampong Tanah Jambu.
Present as the guest of honour was First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Othman bin Hj Suhaili @ Suhaily, Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN). Also present at the ceremony were Services Commanders, Joint Force Commander, military directors, Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Acting Director of Operations, as well as senior officers from RBAF and Defence Academy RBAF.
The 14-week course began on 31 August 2020 until 7 December 2020 with a total of 49 participants, comprising 48 officers from the RBAF (16 officers from RBN) and 1 officer from the RBPF. For this year, due to the global pandemic COVID-19, the RBAF has not been able to accept any participants from abroad for this year’s course.
The ceremony started with recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Surah Luqman verse 1-16 by Captain Pengiran Abdul Hadi bin Pengiran Idris followed by cohort reflection delivered by Lieutenant Najihah binti Hj Abdul Hisab, RBN. In her speech she described how ISC has developed not just the participants’ professionalism but also their sphere of thinking. The cohort was full of characters and people from different background offering different perspectives and insights on any issues being discussed. Directing Staff were indispensable whom have provided the cohort to learn in a conducive environment.
The guest of honour congratulated all the students for their hard work and dedication during the course, and presented awards to those whom have excelled. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of going back to basics and integrity and how it is essential for every leaders. He also reminded the participants on why it is important for them to keep a reading culture. “Not every reader is a leader, but all leaders are an avid reader”.
