CHIEF OF STAFF
Commander Mohammad Azrin bin Haji Mahmud, Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) assumed the appointment as the Chief of Staff in April 2022. He was enlisted in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in 1999 as a recruit in R Coy and later attended the Royal Navy Young Officer Course at Brittania Royal Naval College. In 2001, he was commission as an officer with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
Throughout his career, Commander Mohammad Azrin has held various appointments ranging from Fleet and Staff appointments. Fleet appointments include his appointments as Executive Officer for PERWIRA Class Coastal Patrol Craft, IJHTIHAD Class Fast Patrol Boats and DARUSSALAM Class Patrol Vessel; Gunnery Officer for the WASPADA Class Missile Gun Boat and Commanding Officer for PERWIRA Class Coastal Patrol Craft, IJHTIHAD Class Fast Patrol Boats and DARUSSALAM Class Patrol Vessel. His early career also involved working as a staff officer at various branches in the Royal Brunei Navy within the Intelligence and Operations cell; and also in the Joint Force Headquarters as SO3 J3 (Navy). In addition, he has also been attached to the Information Fusion Centre in the Changi Command and Control Centre, Republic of Singapore, in 2014 as the Brunei International Liaison Officer.
His career in the navy was streamlined as an executive branch officer specialising in Communications and Electronic Warfare before completing his Principal Warfare Officer course in KD Sultan Idris I, Malaysia in 2011. Other courses he attended includes the Command and Staff Course at the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College, Singapore in 2015 and the Executive Development Programme at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (SHHBIDSS) in 2019.
In his career, he was also given the opportunity and exposure to Multi-Lateral Arena with his participation and involvement in ASEAN Defence Minister' Meeting – Plus (ADMM-Plus) Huminatarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and Military Medicine (MM) Exercise in 2013 as staff to the Chief Exercise Controller (EXCON), and Battle Staff for Exercise Mahi Tangaroa in New Zealand for the Field Training Exercise under the ADMM-Plus Experts Working Group for Maritime Security (EWG in MS). He have attended various conferences and symposiums such as the ADMM-Plus Experts Working Group for Maritime Security (EWG in MS) and the Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) Workshops.
Commander Azrin is married to Hajah Kharterinah Zeimah binti Haji Ibrahim and is blessed with a daughter Adryanna Kazimah.
