MUARA, Thursday, 08 June 2023 – QI JIGUANG of the People’s Liberation Army – Navy (PLA-N) departed Muara after a goodwill visit to Brunei Darussalam from 05 to 08 June 2023 led by Rear Admiral Su Yinsheng, Political Commissar of the Dalian Naval Academy. During their departure, the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) held a farewell ceremony led by Lieutenant Commander Ade Roddiane bin Haji Mohd Rosdi, Commanding Officer of KDB DARULAMAN after which QI JIGUANG was joined by KDB DARUSSALAM for a Passage Exercise in conjunction with the Goodwill Visit.
During the Goodwill Visit, a series of interactions between PLA-N and RBN were held including exchanges of ship visits, professional exchange between the young officers of both navies, a visit to University Brunei Darussalam (UBD), sports interaction and a beach cleaning event in Serasa Beach. QI JIGUANG also held a deck reception onboard QI JIGUANG where RBN Officers attended with Commander Willie bin Padan, Commandant of Naval Training Centre, RBN as the Guest of Honour, invited embassies and defence attachés, as well as representatives of the local Chinese community.
The PLA-N delegation consisting of Rear Admiral Su Yinsheng, Political Commissar of the Dalian Naval Academy, Senior Captain Chen Denan, Deputy Commandant of the PLA-N Dalian Naval Academy, Captain Feng Liang, Commanding Officer of QI JIGUANG, Captain Kang Junwei, Political Commissar of QI JIGUANG, and Senior Colonel Dai Qilin, Defence Attaché of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, paid a courtesy call to Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin bin Matserudin, RBN Acting Commander.
This series of interaction represents the cordial defence and security relations between both RBN and PLA-N established through years of engagement at sea and through multilateral events. The RBN reaffirms its commitment to strengthen its bilateral relations with PLA-N, enhancing interoperability towards the goal of cooperation at sea and wishes QI JIGUANG a smooth journey to her next port of call.
