MUARA, Monday, 5 June 2023 – QI JIGUANG of the People’s Liberation Army – Navy (PLA-N) has arrived at Muara Commercial Port for a goodwill visit to Brunei Darussalam from 05 – 08 June 2023 led by Rear Admiral Su Yinsheng, Political Commissar of PLA-N Dalian Naval Academy.
QI JIGUANG is currently on a long-range training deployment setting sail from a Dalian, Liaoning Province, China visiting several countries in Southeast Asia namely Viet Nam, Thailand, Brunei and finally to the Philippines. Upon her arrival to Brunei Darussalam, QI JIGUANG was welcomed with a ceremony organised by the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) led by Commander Shahairil bin Hj Mohd Shahlan, Assistant Chief of Staff Capability Development. Among those present were His Excellency Mr. Xiao Jianguo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam and Senior Colonel Dai Qilin, Defence Attaché of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam.
The goodwill visit by QI JIGUANG will include several interactions with RBN including professional exchanges, visits, community relations activity, Passage Exercise with KDB DARUSSALAM as well as a deck reception to be hosted onboard QI JIGUANG. During the visit, the PLA-N delegation consisting of Rear Admiral Su Yinsheng, Political Commissar of PLA-N Dalian Naval Academy, Senior Captain Chen Denan, Deputy Commandant of PLA-N Dalian Naval Academy, Captain Feng Liang, Commanding Officer of QI JIGUANG, and Captain Kang Junwei, Political Commissar of QI JIGUANG will also be paying a courtesy call to RBN’s Acting Commander, Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin bin Matserudin, RBN.
This series of interactions reflects the cordial defence and security relations between RBN and PLA-N established through years of sea engagement and multilateral events. The RBN reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its bilateral ties with PLA-N.
