ZHANJIANG, PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA; Monday, 22 October 2018 – The Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, attended the Opening Ceremony of ASEAN-China Maritime Exercise (ACMEX) 2018 at Ma Xie Naval Base, Zhanjiang.
During the opening ceremony, Chief of Navy, Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) Rear-Admiral Lew Chuen Hong made his opening speech emphasised the importance of sea to the region and the prosperity could be achievable if the sea is stable and secure. He also stated the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (Cues) is one example of promoting practical cooperation – to enhance operational-level communication and reduces risk of miscalculations.
And also a speech from Vice-Admiral Yuan, Commander of Southern Theater Command stated that the exercise is a significant move towards regional security, collaboration and confidence-building, and the exercise set a new milestone for a community of a shared future between China and ASEAN.
ACMEX 2018 will be conducting six-day drill till 27th October, which is expected to involve helicopter cross-deck landings and a joint search and rescue operation. Representing Brunei Darussalam is the Patrol vessel-class, KDB DARUTTAQWA, which arrived yesterday on 21 October 2018.
Later in the afternoon, Commander of RBN and other ASEAN delegation moved again to Ma Xie Naval Base visited the Joint Commanding Organisation and a ship tour onboard PLAN-GUANGZHOU before ended the programme attended the Co-Party of ACMEX 2018 Opening at the sport field, where the delegations were entertained by varieties of singing and dance performance, performed by local Chinese dancers and also personnel from ASEAN participating ships..
