BALI, 23 – 25 August 2017 - The Deputy Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), Captain Hj Othman bin Hj Suhaili @ Suhaily, recently attended the 3rd International Maritime Security Symposium in Bali, Republic of Indonesia hosted by Indonesian Navy. The symposium was held on Wednesday, 23rd August until Friday, 25th August 2017.
1 Chief of Army, 11 Chiefs of Navies and 31 Heads of Delegations from 43 countries of the Western Pacific Region and Indian Ocean Region attended the symposium.
The symposium with a theme “Maritime Cooperation for Good Order at Sea” commenced with a keynote address by Indonesia Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, General (R) Wiranto.
In his speech, he emphasised on maintaining and upgrading maritime security especially to the increase complexity in maritime security threat. He also touched on the importance of effective law enforcement, developing regional and international cooperation and capacity building among member navies in the advent of the current maritime security environment.
The 3rd symposium ended on a high note by Chief of Indonesian Navy, Admiral Ade Supandi, in his remarks emphasised the importance to explore future trends and challenge in the good order at sea and at the same time identify areas for engagement among different countries to build effective multilateral maritime security frameworks.
The next International Martime Security Symposium will be held in 2019.
