Muara, Friday 13 June 2014 – The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) celebrates its anniversary on 14th June ever since its establishment in 1965. A parade in conjunction with RBN 49th anniversary was held this morning at the parade ground of the RBN.Honouring the parade and also receiving the general salute was the Commander of RBN himself, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan (L) Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit. Shortly after the arrival at the parade square, the Commander of RBN was accorded with the General Salute before consenting to inspect the guard of honour. The parade contingent comprised of 184 personnel from the Base, Fleet, Logistic, Training and RBN Band. The parade was led by Major (L) Junaidi bin Hj Duraman.
The parade programme began with the Marchpast followed by a speech by the Commander of RBN. In his speech the commander highlighted the obligation and responsibilities of RBN personnel in its core duties in protecting the nation’s maritime domain, as this is an utmost importance to induce and sustain the nation’s progressive developments.
With the current dynamics of the geo-strategic environment as well as the advancement in information technology, this has raised RBN standards so forth has resulted in a much wider role for RBN to be more efficient and effective in facing the current and future challenges. He emphasised on the importance to always maintain a high state of readiness to well prepare RBN in facing these challenges. He later added, these new challenges need to be met with enhanced cooperation with local agencies, as well as regional neighbours and other countries. He also emphasised on the progress RBN has made over past 49 years, highlighting on the bilateral and multi-lateral exercises, long deployments and enhanced defence diplomacy RBN has been involved since its establishment in 1965.
Accordingly after the parade programme the Commander of RBN led the cutting of the cake to commemorate the 49th anniversary. The event continued with a Meet and Greet session amongst RBN Personnel, TEMD and Civilian Workforce at the RBN Warrant Officers Mess. The final programme to an eventful day was the group photo session comprising of more than 350 RBN personnel, which depicts a formation of an arrowhead.
