BANGKOK, Thursday,4th August 2016 – The Initial Planning Conference (IPC) of the 1st ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercise codename AMNEX and International Fleet Review 2017 (IFR) was conducted from Monday,1st August 2016 until Thursday,4th August 2016, hosted by the Royal Thailand Navy at Avani Riverside Bangkok Hotel, Thailand.
The first AMNEX is to be conducted in Thailand which will be coupled with ASEAN IFR in 2017 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN. 18 Delegates from 9 ASEAN Navies participated and attended the 4 days conference. Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) was represented by Commander Sahibul Bahari bin Haji Zainal Abidin, Commanding Officer of KDB DARUTTAQWA.
The IPC AMNEX & IFR 2017 conference was officiated by Vice Admiral Thanee Phudpad, Deputy Commander in Chief Royal Thai Fleet. Captain Jirapol Wongwit, in his capacity as the chairman of AMNEX 2017 IPC Working Group gave the welcoming remarks. In his welcome remarks the chairman welcomed all delegates and expressed his appreciation of the delegates to be able to attend IPC. The objective of the IPC was mainly to provide information concerning ships and logistics matters for all ASEAN delegates of the planning of AMNEX and IFR 2017.
All the ASEAN Delegates was given the privilege to work together to discuss and provide contributions on the Planning. The Objectives of AMNEX are to develop relationship and capacity building among ASEAN Navies, as well as to enhance trusts, mutual respect and reinforces the need for interoperability in maritime security.
AMNEX & IFR 2017 is plan to be conducted on 13th November until 22nd November 2017 in Pattaya, Thailand. It will be in conjunction with the 11th ASEAN Navy Chief Meeting (ANCM) which is held on November 2017.
