Muara Naval Base, 26 April 2018 – A maritime security roundtable session was held onboard HMAS TOOWOOMBA. Maritime Security Working Committee (MSWC) under National Security Committee, Prime Minister’s Office attended the rountable session which was led by Commander NorAriffin bin Mohd Ali, Acting Maritime Director, National Maritime Coordination Centre.Other representatives also attended the session, which composed of
representatives from Directorate of Defence Policy, Attorney General Chambers, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maritime and Port Authority, Police Marine, Royal Brunei Navy & Fisheries Department.
The group was welcomed by Her Excellency Nicola Rosenblum, Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam and Commander Stuart Watters, Commanding Officer HMAS TOOWOOMBA who then opened the session.
The session focused and addressed on challenges and issue faced by local maritime agencies. Lieutenant Commander Richard Elsom, Australian International Liaison Officer at the Information Fusion Centre, Singapore shared some insights including responsibilities of maritime security in Australian perspective in which is the sole responsibility of Maritime Border Command, the leading agency for maritime security in Australia.
The group also had the opportunity to tour the ship and a group photo session was also held onboard HMAS TOOWOOMBA.
